NAGAFF’s campaign of calumny capable of causing breach of peace at ports, AREFFN warns

The Association of Registered Freight Forwarders Nigeria (AREFFN) has called on registered freight forwarders who are yet to identify with any of the registered freight forwarding associations to disregard the statement issued recently by the National Association of Government Approved Freight forwarders (NAGAFF) and feel free to register with any of the five accredited associations of their choice.

AREFFN’s Director of Publicity, Forwarder A. O Vincent who made this call in a press statement he issued in Lagos dated 22nd of June, 2017 and copied to Preisdent Muhammadu Buhari and six others urged the freight forwarders and the general public to disregard the claim which he said was capable of causing breach of peace and chaos in sector.

“It has come to the knowledge of AREFFN that some mischief makers masquerading as the biggest associations in Africa are urging all freight forwarders in Nigeria to register with them for the purposes of (1) facilitating quick issuance of CRFFN and NPA identity cards for access into the ports (2) Campaigning for proscription or de-accreditation of other associations accredited by the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) as well as (3) arrogating to themselves as the only recognized associations in the freight forwarding sub-sector of the maritime industry.

“All registered freight forwarders including the customs brokers and intending members of CRFFN registered practitioners are hereby advised to ignore and discountenance this odious campaign of politics of exclusion by NAGAFF/ANLCA initiative as indecent, void and ultra-vires. For the purpose of clarity, CRFFN in its wisdom and for the purpose of administrative convenience had accredited five associations namely; the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), National Association of Air Freight Forwarders and Consolidators (NAFFAC), National Council of Managing Directors of Licensed Customs Agents (NCMDLCA) and Association of Registered Freight Forwarders Nigeria (AREFFN).

“You are therefore advised to approach any of the five associations of your choice for the purposes of (1) registration (2) obtaining CRFFN certificate and identity card and (3) NPA port pass/NCAA identity card for easy access to the sea/air ports and land border stations. If you fail to do so, it may become so difficult for you to access any Nigerian Sea/Air Ports and land borders to do your business and you may even be prosecuted and jailed.

“We advise you to ignore NAGAFF’s campaign as it is smeared of calumny capable of causing breach of peace and chaos in the industry. The young shall grow while the old shall give way to the young to grow”, the statement reads.
