The Governor of Anambra state, Chief Willie Obiano has described as an avoidable controversy argument raging over a week now over which of the governments constructed the Federal Government College Road Nise in Awka South Local Government Area of the state.

A statement issued in Awka yesterday by the Chairman of Governor Obiano’s Media Team, Mr. Chuks Iloegbunam said that Governor Obiano had a surefeit of accomplishments that he neither needed nor coveted the accomplishments of his his brother governors so as to boost his legacy.

Iloegbunam maintained that the Governor had insisted in all circumstances that never should the project done by the previous administration be attributed to him.

He explained that the road in question was the Federal Government College Road, Nise/Akabo Mbaukwu-Haba River -Ukunu junction which was about 6.05 kilometers long.

According to him,”The contract for the construction of the road was awarded on May 13, 2013 by the Peter Obi administration at the cost of N1,362, 000 (One Billion, Three Hundred and Sixty-Two Thousand Naira only). The contract was awarded to Cossel construction company. As at the inception of the Willie Obiano’s administration on March 17, 2014, the preceding administration had paid a total of N779,661,107.92 (Seven Hundred and Seventy-Nine Million, Six Hundred and Sixty-One Thousand, One Hundred and Seven Naira, Ninety-Two Kobo only).

“That gave the Peter Obi’s administration credit for constructing 57 percent of the road. The Willie Obiano’s administration paid the remaining N582,339:00 of the contract sum, following the construction stages that culminated in the completion of the project. This means that the Obiano’s administration constructed 43 percent of the road.

“The CORRECT position, therefore, is that the Peter Obi’s government commenced the project, while the Obiano government completed it”.

The media aide observed that the development tied into the policy of the 4Cs enunciated by Governor Willie Obiano upon his assumption of the mantle of leadership to; Continue, Complete, Commission and Commence new projects.

“The foregoing facts surrounding the construction of the FGC Nise Road deal a lethal blow on Governor Obiano’s traducers because they clearly demonstrate that he is faithful to his oath to Continue the projects started by his predecessor, Complete them, Commission them and Commence projects of his own initiation.

“This also applies to the new “controversy” over the construction of the Ekwulobia-Ezinifite Road, in Aguata Local Government Area. The Peter Obi administration started the road in July 2013. It paid N557 million out of the project cost of N765 million. The Willie Obiano administration paid the remaining N208 million.  Clearly, Governor Obiano again lived up to his billing as a man of his words and principles”, he stated.

He there said that these clarifications should put to rest what he said was becoming a diversionary  bedlam over projects bereft of ambiguity adding that, “It is, of course, also apposite to thank all those who asked questions because they genuinely yearned for answers”.
