The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Anambra State chapter led by His Youthfulness, Comrade Nonso Smart Okafor has condemned in strong terms the shooting at St. Philip’s Catholic Church in Ozubulu community by unknown gunmen which left many worshippers dead and scores seriously injured.

The incident which occurred on Sunday morning left 11 people dead and 18 others wounded and hospitalized.

In a statement signed by Obinna Odogwu, Public Relations Officer of the Council observed that although there were versions of stories surrounding the tragedy, the Council urged the security agencies to ensure that the perpetrators of the heinous act were brought to book.

It further called for a thorough investigation on the immediate and remote cause(s) of the attack on the innocent worshippers.

“We commiserate with the people of Ozubulu community especially the bereaved families over the tragic death of their loved ones.

“We also commiserate with the Catholic Church, the Anambra State Government and indeed, the entire Ndi Anambra on the tragedy that befell our dear state this day. We are deeply saddened by this ugly development.

“May the Almighty God grant the deceased persons eternal rest in His bosom and the bereaved families the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss in Jesus name, amen”, the statement read.
