Operatives of the Federal Anti Robbery Squad (FARS), Lagos State Command have arrested two members of a notorious armed robbery gang operating on the Oworonshoki expressway.

The suspects identified as Ahmed Olamilakan and Abiodun Ogunkanni specialists in car snatching, allegedly snatched two vehicles from unsuspecting members of the public.

It was gathered that the suspects who operates on motorcycle trailed their victims to their homes in the night before pouncing on them.

A police source said the suspects allegedly snatched a Toyota Camry with registration No. MUS 795 CD and a Lexus Jeep No. LSR 269 EM from two of their victims.

It was also gathered that the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, who was worried by the activities of the notorious gang directed the officer in charge of FSARS, Mohammed Ahmed, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), to go after members of the gang.

Based on the strength of the directive, CSP Ahmed alongside some undercover agents, swung into action.

Another impeccable police source disclosed that after several weeks of surveillance and close monitoring of the gang, the Police arrested the two armed robbery suspects at Ojuelegba area of Surulere.

It was gathered that during interrogation, Ahmed and Abiodun admitted belonging to the gang.

He said: “Though Abiodun admitted being a member of the gang but denied being among those who snatched the Silver colored Toyota Camry car. He however admitted following the gang to Oworoshoki where the Lexus jeep was taken away from its owner at gun point”.

Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Olarinde Famous- Cole who confirmed the arrest gave the chasis numbers of Toyota Camry as 4TIBG22KXYU69371 and that of the Lexus as JI6GF10U0Y0058148, Engine NO 0578730 Grey Colour.

Famous-Cole, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) said the Camry car was snatched while the owner was negotiating a bend to go into his house to park.

He said: “I will want to advise members of the public to be wary of any strange face lurking around their gate when driving into their house at night. This might be a member of an armed robbery gang assigned to monitor one’s movement. Someone will just emerge from nowhere with gun to your head. You won’t be able to do anything in such situation. Imagine the attack on the man who was driving into his house at Oworonshoki, the suspects waited for him to enter his compound before the struck”.

He said that effort was ongoing to arrest other fleeing members of the gang.
