The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris who stated this on Thursday during the commissioning of the first phase of the Muhammadu Buhari 1,083 Housing Estate in Agemowo Badagry, Lagos said the Police was yet to be communicated officially to investigate the seizures.
According to him, “The CGC has spoken about the seizures and the police as a security agency if asked to get involved in the investigations, will investigate the source of the arms and will ensure that those behind it do not go unpunished under any circumstance.”
“I have been going round the country and have noticed that Nigerians want to live together like brothers and sisters and the police has the responsibility to work towards the unity of the country and protect lives and properties of the citizens.”
It will be recalled that the Nigeria Customs Service in the last eight months has seized a total of 2,671 arms illegally imported into the country in four batches from Turkey sparking off series of diplomatic meetings between Nigeria and Turkey.
