The founder of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), Dr. Boniface Aniebonam has called the attention of the freight forwarders and importers operating across the Western Zones to the Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON) Stakeholders’ forum holding in Lagos on the 19th October, 2017.
Aniebonam who informed that the forum would take place at the NAN Event Centre at 11.00am observed that the essence of the forum was to educate and enlighten all freight forwarders and shippers on matters of SONCAP regulation which he said was primarily to facilitate legitimate trade through standardization of products imported, manufactured and/or exported from Nigeria.
He further said that the forum would also be an opportunity to draw the attention of all stakeholders with regard to the new Standards Organisation of Nigeria Act 2015 detailing all laws governing the operations of SON as an agency of the Government.
“This is to inform all freight forwarders and importers operating within the Western zone of Nigeria that in continuation of the executive orders of Mr. President on the concept of ease of doing business in the Nigerian Ports and border entry points, the Standards Organisation of Nigeria in collaboration with NAGAFF/ANLCA shall be holding a stakeholders forum on the 19th of October 2017, time is 11am at the NAN conference auditorium beside, National Theatre Iganmu Lagos.
“Accordingly all freight forwarding practitioners and shippers are expected to take advantage of the awareness campaign to increase their capacity and knowledge with regard to SON operations and relevance in our international trade and standardization of products imported into Nigeria.
“And for the emphasis, let it be on-record that SON Act 2015 is very strict on matters of non-conformity to standards, processes and procedures in relation to SONCAP and MANCAP regulations. It is an opportunity to enrich ourselves with the requisites of doing genuine business in relation to SON regulation.
“And for the avoidance of doubt, it is alleged that SON may soon stop the facility of SONCAP default charges to enable actual conformity to SONCAP rules. In other words the Nigerian importers shall be strictly mandated to obey the SONCAP rule of processes and procedures or have their goods seized and the offender prosecuted.
“NAGAFF had since advised all practitioners that the concept of ease of doing business is not an idea to making new laws but rather to remove all human element barriers that have continued to impede genuine trade in Nigeria. All laws are extant as it were which do not encourage corrupt behaviour”, he stated.
