The body of a 40 year old man, Oluseyi Adekunle who jumped off the Lekki-Ikoyi bridge into the Lagos lagoon on Friday has been recovered after a three day search by the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA) and the Marine Police early yesterday morning.
Adekunle dropped his personal belongings and clothes before jumping into the water on that fateful.
The General Manager LASEMA, Mr. Adeshina Tiamiyu who spoke to newsmen on the development said that the local fishermen who were fishing on the water discovered a floating body around 5.am and alerted them which prompted them to mobilize to evacuate the body.
Tiamiyu said that following the description of the incident and preliminary investigations made by the agency showed that the body was that of Adekunle.
He noted that the body had been handed over to the police for onward delivery to the family of the deceased on their arrival even as he said that the police will continue their investigations from there.
He thanked the Marine Police as well as the LASWA team who he said had been on search and rescue operation since the day the incident occurred.
On his part, the Managing Director of LASWA, Mr. Damilola Emmanuel stayed that the agency would beef up surveillance and monitoring operations along the waterways in the state to forestall the reoccurrence of the incident while describing the incident as unfortunate.
