The Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) is set to elect new chapter executives for its Tincan Island units.
The foremost road transport association has three units under the Tincan Island port, even as it would be recalled that the last executives were dissolved six months ago.
Speaking in Lagos on Tuesday, the electoral Chairman, NARTO, Mr. Anderson Hananiya disclosed that the election was expected to hold at the Lagos state Secretariat, Ijora on Thursday adding that Tincan Island chapter had three units which would be keenly contested by eligible members of the association.
Hananiya recalled that the south west zonal executives constituted the electoral committee on the 25th of September 2017 to conduct elections for Tincan Island 1, 2 and 3 units within four weeks.
He noted that “It is our tradition in NARTO that election of executives is key and paramount for the growth and development of the association.
“This is not a national elections but a branch unit elections at Tincan Island port Units 1, 2, 3. Because of the strategic position of the units at Tincan Island port, we have to conduct elections that will be free and fair”.
He said a caretaker committee was inaugurated six months ago to oversee the affairs of the units due to some issues bothering on the industry.
“Now it’s barely six months and elections have to be conducted the elections”, he added.
He called on contestants to conduct themselves in an orderly manner to ensure hitch free elections.
“We want to ensure that there is peace in our association and that is why we want a democratic system to be in place in order for us to achieve a common goal “,he said.
