A stray bullet from the officials of the Comptroller- General of Customs Compliance Team this morning hit an 8-month pregnant woman, Olugunna Bukola who was on her way to work.

The officials were said to be in pursuit of smugglers around Ota area of Ogun State when the incident occurred.

It was gathered that the officers attempted to apprehend smugglers around the area when a group of young man trooped to the scene trying to prevent the arrest.

Sources said that the officers while trying to escape being over powered began shooting sporadically and the woman said to be working with Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) was hit.

Report earlier said that the woman died as a result of the wounds sustained from the bullet but a check by our correspondent has since confirmed that she sustained a minor injury and was admitted to an undisclosed hospital in the area.

Two officers were said to have been detained at Obasanjo Farm Police station in connection with the shooting.

However, the Public Relations Officer, Federal Operations Unit, Zone A, Ikeja, Jerry Attah, said refuted the detention report saying that the officers were only taken into custody for protection following the attack by the young men.

Attah said the two officers have since been released and that he has also spoken to both the woman and the doctor at the hospital where she was taken to.
