That the needy may have their sights restored without stress, the Rotary Club of Ikoyi conducted a Free Cataract Eye Surgery treatment for many less privilege people.
The Club’s commitment in serving humanity has continued to manifest in the positive changes in the lives of many people in its community every day.
Speaking at the commencement of the project recently, the Club’s President, Rotarian Isichei Osamgbi, who led a delegation to the Eye Foundation Clinic, GRA, Ikeja, said the treatment was to support the patients to regain their sight in order to continue living like every other person in the society.
He urged similar humanitarian organizations and government to show some more sense of responsibility to its people by providing discounted or free Cataract eye treatment or similar gestures to the people.
He said, “Our duty in Rotary is to see how we can impact and improve on people’s lives and make life easier for the less privileged”.
Rotarian Osamgbi further urged Rotarians not to relent in their good work towards humanity and thanked the management of the Eye Foundation Clinic for their support as well as members of the Club.
The Rotary Club of Ikoyi President added that “for us in Rotary, impacting on people’s lives and serving humanity is our paramount business and the Club is ever ready to help the less privilege in the society as much as we can”.
Rotarian Osamgbi equally expressed satisfaction with the partnership and delivery of the service and further requested that the outreach be conducted again in the future as more people are in need of it.
The Project Coordinator and a member of the Club, Rotarian Dr. Adebowale Omole, urged the patients to follow up on the treatment and abide by the doctor’s prescription, saying that the Club has taken all the burdens of providing the treatment in partnership with the Eye Foundation Clinic in the spirit of Rotary humanitarianism.
He urged other philanthropic and Non-Governmental Organizations and also government to key into the humanitarian service of Rotary to make life easier and meaningful for the less privilege in society.
He equally commended the President of the Club and its members for making the project a reality.
The Eye Doctor, Dr. Alarape Taofik, thanked Rotary Club of Ikoyi for remembering the less privilege patients who were in need of medical attention and promised that every patient within the project scope will be attended to.
On their part, some of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Bose Afolayan and Mr. Rasheed Busari on behalf of others expressed their appreciation to the Eye Foundation Hospital and Rotary Club of Ikoyi.
“It has changed my life and I can tell you that before now I could not see very well, but God has used Rotary to make my life better. Thank you Rotary, thank you Eye Foundation”, Mrs. Bose Afolayan said.
