The Chairman, National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Anambra State chapter, Comrade Nonso Smart Okafor has declared his intention to run for the Nnewi North State Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly in the 2019 general election under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Okafor, a former President of the Students’ Union Government (SUG), Federal Polytechnic, Oko in Anambra State made his intention to contest known in a WhatsApp message he forwarded to our correspondent Monday.

He noted that he had never gone for a position because it was vacant nor for selfish considerations rather he offered to serve only where he had strong conviction that he could make change happen adding that testimonies of people where he had served in the past passed as strong evidence that he had never been a failure before and won’t start now.

Dearest Friend,

I write you today to formally declare my interest to represent NNEWI-NORTH at ANAMBRA STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY.

In the words of Frantz Fanon, “Each generation must, out of relative obscurity, discover its mission, fulfill it, or betray it”. Our generation is faced with serious leadership challenge. We have the option to stand up and effect a change or sit down and do nothing.

All my life, I have never gone for a position because it’s vacant nor for selfish considerations. I offer to serve only where I have strong conviction that I can make change happen. Testimonies of people where I have served in the past stand as strong evidence that I have never been a failure before and won’t start now.

House of Assembly is a platform to negotiate and draw developments to one’s constituency. It’s a platform to make laws and more importantly reactivate existing laws especially those that have gone moribund. It’s a platform to complement the executive in budget execution through oversights.

I believe we owe our generation a duty to stand up and deliver true service to our fatherland else we shall, someday soon, lose the moral right to complain of bad leadership.

I therefore humbly call on you to support me to represent Nnewi at the House of Assembly under the platform of APGA come 2019.

Yours Sincerely,

Nonso Okafor

(Smart).
