Members of the Association of Registered Freight Forwarders, Nigeria (AREFFN) has directed that the letter written by members of the association’s Board of Trustees (BoT) removing the interim National President of AREFFN, Alhaji Bala Lawan Daura and the National Secretary, Mr. Chidi Anthony Opara be formally withdrawn in a letter bearing the seal of the association.

This was contained in an eleven points communiqué issued at the end of a special meeting of the association convened by the former National Secretary of AREFFN, Ichie Frank Obiekezie and signed by the former National President of the association, Dr. Frank Ukor and twenty others in Lagos on Thursday.

The communiqué said that members agreed that all the Board members who were running the Board when two registered trustees of the association namely, Mr. Innocent Elum and Mr. Ejike Metu were at school should be retained in the new Board of Trustees.

It further added that members agreed that the association’s reviewed constitution be handed over to the interim executive and the Board of Trustees for review and filing at the Corporate Affairs Commission by the interim President, Alhaji Bala Lawan Daura within one month.

“That the President emeritus and the interim President shall continue to work hand in hand in the interest of the association. That the interim executive should ensure that the association’s secretariat locked up by the landlord due to rent arrears is reopened while the association continues to look for a new office. That the interim executive has from 10th May to 20th November, 2018 to implement all these resolutions.

“That the four points agreement reached between the interim executive and the Elders delegate at Owerri in 2017 be followed up by the interim executive viz; (a) That the interim executive should file the constitution after it had  been reviewed and ratified  by the interim executive and the Board of Trustees. (b) That the interim executive shall prepare the annual and auditor’s reports for filing at the Corporate Affairs Commission. (c) That the issue of rent arrears be resolved by the interim executive. (e) that the interim executive shall identify and exploit all sources of revenue for the association for maximum benefit”, the communiqué read in part.

According the communiqué, the interim president and his executives had been given free hand by the association and the former President to run their offices uninterrupted adding that the next meeting shall be convened and presided over by the interim President.

It also mandated the former President to formally hand over to the interim President all the association’s documents, assets and liabilities.

Recall that this medium reported that the former National President of AREFFN, Dr. Frank Ukor in an interview disclosed that both Daura and Opara had been removed as interim National President and Secretary by the Board and had been replaced with his Vice President, Mr. Okey Egwuatu.

Ukor revealed that Daura and Opara were removed for gross incompetence adding that Daura and Opara were majorly concerned about the East even as he said that since Bala was appointed, he has never done anything here in the West because he believed that everything about association starts and ends in the East which he said was not proper.
