Hijacking: Police arrest two dismissed military officers, one fake Soldier, two others

… Arrest of three notorious armed robbers, recover arms

The Lagos State Police command on Sunday arrested five highway robbers who specialized in in intercepting and diverting lorries laden with goods along Epe expressway.

The Commissioner of Police Lagos State, Mr. Imohimi Edgal who made this known while parading some suspects arrested by the command at the command’s headquarters, Ikeja, Lagos on Wednesday hinted that the gang at about 8.00pm on Sunday, hijacked a Sterling truck with registration number LSR-266-XW, laden with groundnut oil valued at thirteen million, two hundred and fifty thousand Naira only (N13, 250.000.00) at Epe expressway.

Edgal added that the robbers stopped the Kano State bound truck close to Ijebu Ode, pushed the conductor and the driver out of the vehicle and drove the vehicle away.

“However, as the duo were trekking towards Epe-Lagos, they came across a policeman and narrated their ordeal to him. The policeman immediately contacted some of the police stations along the route taken by the robbers.

“At about 2230 hours, policemen on stop and search duty, saw the truck coming and intercepted it. In the process, one Monday Ayele ‘m’, aged 42 years and Esowanne Emeka ‘m’, aged 30 years were arrested”, the CP said.

He informed that in the course of interrogation, the two mentioned 13NA/69/8811 Lance Corporal Moses Johnson ‘m’, age 25 years, a dismissed soldier, 13NAF/89/8811/ Lance Corporal Akintola Abiodun ‘m’, age 25 years, dismissed Air Force personnel and Corporal Osegbu Chidi ‘m’, aged 30 years, a fake soldier as part of the people that hijacked the truck.

“The truck and the goods were recovered intact and all the suspects have been identified by the victims. Suspects will be charged to court at the conclusion of the investigation”, he added.

In a similar development, operatives of the command, attached to the Raider team of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department on 22nd of August, 2018, arrested one Kehinde Ramon ‘m’, age 20 years, an Okada rider who specialized in highway robber with specialty in attacking commuters, snatching handbags from unsuspecting ladies, and robs whenever the opportunity presents itself.

The CP disclosed that the said Kehinde Ramon was arrested during one of his robbery operations around Okokomaiko saying that during interrogation, he confessed that he was a traffic robber and that he usually operates with members of his gang along Okokomaiko, Pipeline, Igando and Ajangbadi axis.

The Police Chief observed that further revelations from the suspect led to the arrest of his partners in crime, namely; Afolabi Ibrahim age 23 years and Sheriff Ogundeji, age 25 years at Odusan Street behind Akesan market Igando.

He listed items recovered from them to include; one Italian made pistol, one locally made double barrel pistol, several ammunition and their operational motorcycle even as he said that the suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigation is over.
