Three suspects in Police net over attempt to kidnap businesswoman in Lagos

…Arrest six others for conspiracy, robbery

Attempt to kidnap a Lagos based businesswoman; Mrs. Ijeoma Ezeokafor was recently foiled as operatives of the Lagos State Police command have arrested three suspects in connection with the crime.

Two of the suspects namely; Emmanuel Okemayin, male, aged 27 years and Austin Anya, male, aged 30 years were both employed as drivers to the victim and the victim’s husband respectively, while the third suspect, Arowosola Adewale, male, 32 years collected the sum of ten thousand naira (N10, 000) from the drivers to enable him hire a native doctor that will protect them after the operation.

The Commissioner of Police Lagos State, CP Imohimi Edgal who disclosed this in a press briefing at the command’s headquarters at Ikeja, Lagos yesterday stated that information from a credible source on the 29th of October, 2018, revealed that some group of kidnappers had already concluded arrangement to kidnap the victim who is a renowned business woman.

Edgal noted that on the receipt of the information, directives was given to the FSARS Operatives to infiltrate the camp of the-would be kidnappers and play along with them.

He observed that the suspects requested for arms, ammunition and a vehicle from the agents provocateur ( FSARS men),  while the suspects, on their path sent the photographs of the target, details of her vehicle and other information to their new partners, unknown to them that they were dealing with policemen.

“It took ten days for the group to plan the kidnapping of the business women. However, on the D-day, 29/10/2018, the suspects surfaced and were immediately arrested.

​“During interrogation, they gave their names as Emmanuel Okemayin, Austine Anya and Arowosola Adewale. It was revealed that two of the suspects, Austin Anya and Emmanuel Okemayin were both employed as drivers to the victim and victim’s husband respectively, while the third suspect, Arowosola Adewale collected the sum of ten thousand naira (N10,000) from the drivers to enable him hire a native doctor that will protect them after the operation”, he said.

The Lagos Police Chief added that the suspects disclosed that the plan to kidnap their employer derived from her wickedness.

In a related development, the Lagos State Police command has arrested six suspects for robbing fuel attendants and their customers at Skepter Petrol Station situated at Igbo-Elerin Bus-Stop, Ojo area of Lagos.

The Commissioner of Police Lagos State, CP Imohimi Edgal gave the names of the six suspects as; Obinna Ofoma, male, aged 25 years, Ndukwa Junior, male, aged 22 years, William Okon, male, aged 22 years, Tony Oluchukwu, male, aged 28 years, Charles Mike, male, aged 20 years and Freedom Daniel, male, 20 years.

Edgal said that it was revealed that the supervisor of the Petrol Station, one Daniel Freedom and his fuel attendant, Mike Charles were the master minds of the robbery operation at the Filling Station even as posited that the suspects confessed that they specialized in robbing Petrol Station around Igando and Ilemba Hausa axis of Lagos State.

In his words,” On the 28/10/2018 at about 2100hrs information was received from a credible source that some armed men were sighted at Skepter Petrol Station situated at Igbo-Elerin Bus-Stop, Ojo area of Lagos robbing fuel attendants and their customers.

“On receipt of the information operatives from Ilemba Hausa Police Station and FSARS Ikeja jointly mobilized to the scene. Unfortunately, before the team could arrive, the hoodlums who sensed danger disappeared. However, later in the night, the robbers were arrested from where they were hiding and their arms comprising; two (2) toy guns, three knives and one axe were recovered.

“Investigation is ongoing with a view to arresting other members of the gang currently at large for prosecution”.
