The Anambra State Police command has said that it has arrested a total of eighty-five (85) suspected cultists from different parts of the state between the 10th of August, 2019 and the 19th of August, 2019.

The state’s Commissioner of Police, CP John Abang who disclosed this during the parade of the suspects in Awka on Monday disclosed that 16 suspected cultists were arrested on 10th August, 2019 at Awka, Aguleri and Umueri axis.

Abang continued,” On the 11th August, 2019 at Oko, Amaopkala and Awka axis, 15 suspected cultists arrested. 0n the 12th August, 2019 at Igbariam, Ukwulu and Nkwelle Ezunaka axis, 8 suspected cultists were arrested. On 15 August, 2019, at Obosi, eleven (11) suspected cultists arrested and at Oko sixteen (16) suspected members of Aiye confraternity who came from different States within the Southeast and converged in the area for initiation were arrested.”

He noted that from all the raids carried out so far, a total number of eight-five (85) suspects had been arrested out of which thirty-six (36) were screened out, ten (10) suspects were charged to court, ten (10) were placed under Police supervision for being under aged while twenty-nine (29) others were undergoing investigation.

“Exhibits recovered in their possession include; six (6) machetes, three (3) berets, three (3) improvised bunkers for inhaling substances suspected to be cocaine, three (3) axes, one (1) dagger, one (1) sword and some quantity of weeds suspected to be cannabis sativa”, he added.

He maintained that one major factor responsible  for the overall successes recorded  by the command was the support of the good people of “Ndi Anambra” who he said were observed to have been extremely law abiding and very cooperative with the personnel of the security agencies.

He further said, “I acknowledge this fact and urged the people of the State to sustain this level of cooperation with the Police at all times. We are indeed in an era where Community Policing remains the vogue and the people we are serving continue to demand for excellent service.

“Finally, I want to reiterate my appreciation to His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Chief (Dr.) Willie M. Obiano for his untiring supports to the law enforcement agencies in the State. I also encourage the good people of Anambra State to be security conscious at all times; and report any strange observation or suspicious movements to the security agencies for prompt response, please.”
