Another fire outbreak averted in Onitsha

Barely 48 hours after the unfortunate fire incident at Ochanja Market and other adjourning streets in Onitsha which claimed lives and properties, another fire incident has occurred at Omagba, along Enugu –Onitsha expressway in Onitsha.

According the Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Police command, SP Haruna Mohammed who confirmed the incident to newsmen in Awka, at about 03:26am Friday morning, a trailer loaded with petroleum product at Omagba area along Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, collided with a truck and ignited fire burning three Caterpillars, twenty-two vehicles in a mechanical workshops as well as along Udodi street in Omagba Phase 2 and a truck laden with planks were burnt while eight houses were also touched in the fire incident.

Mohammed stated that Police patrol teams led by the Area Commander Onitsha rushed to the scene and cordoned off the area to prevent hoodlums from taking advantage of the situation to loot.

He equally confirmed that the Fire Service Department was equally contacted which responded promptly and put off the fire before it becomes intractable.

He added that the Commissioner of Police, CP John Abang had ordered for a discreet investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“Meanwhile, no loss of lives and obstruction was cleared to enable free flow of traffic”, he stated.
