…Promises governments continued commitment to fulfilling all promises made

…Urges for tolerance and peace amongst traders in Anambra

The Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano on Wednesday, disbursed over One Hundred Million Naira to the victims of Ochanja market inferno.

One after another, all the speakers who talked to the fire victims urged them to endure because no amount is too small or too big to compensate enough. They were encouraged to keep faith in God as he alone can heal permanently.

In his brief remarks, the Secretary to the Governors Committee on the Ochanja Fire Disaster, who is also the Managing Director, Anambra State Emergency Agency, Mr. CY Agupugo, informed the Governor that the Committee carefully enumerated and visited all the victims of the inferno and came up with a total of six hundred and sixty-three persons with all their details intact.

He also said that the inferno recorded six deaths and many other persons still at the hospitals receiving treatment.

He thanked the governor for fulfilling his promises of providing fire-fighting facilities at the market.

Similarly, the Chairman of the traders, Chief Ojukwu thanked the governor for providing these helps before the Christmas season as promised.

He also noted that the State Ministry of Works has been on inspection of all the roads leading to the market with assurances that soon, all roads leading to the market will be fixed.

In his speech, the Governor again expressed his deep sympathy to the victims of the inferno.

“On October 16th, 2019, a grave thing happened. We had a major fire disaster that took the lives of six persons with many others, hospitalized. We have taken care of all the medical bills. For the six dead people, we are giving a sizeable sum to their next of kin. But this afternoon, I will be disbursing over a hundred million naira. It is important to note that amongst this 763 of you, we are not discriminating against anybody. Irrespective of your state and tribe, provided your goods were razed by fire, you shall get your money”, Obiano assured.

The governor also noted that no amount is big enough to assuage the pains of what were lost to the fire disaster but what the government has done is a pat on the back while urging them to hope in God because it is only him can heal the wound better and permanently too.

The governor also announced that all those who were seriously injured will get the sum of five hundred thousand naira each outside their hospital bills being taken care of.

The high point of the event was the disbursement of the Cheques to the victims by the governor himself.

Recall that earlier in the day; Governor Obiano attended the burial mass of Mrs. Deborah Obi, the woman who lost her life alongside her son to the inferno where he prayed that God will grant the gentle souls eternal rest.
