In a move to curb the spread of the dreaded Coronavirus otherwise known as Covid-19 among his constituents, member representing Nnewi North Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Nonso Smart Okafor has donated lots of hand sanitizers, face masks and tap bucket for distribution.
Okafor who made this known in a statement in Nnewi on Sunday stated that the distribution of the above items was targeted at the local markets where the constituents trade on food items and other essentials day-to-day commodities.
He listed the benefiting markets to include; Eke Amobi, Nwafor Uruagu, Eke Ama Ngwu, Orie Agbo, Afia Okpuno Egbu, Amuko, Nnofor Market, Nwaorie, Odu Igbo Foodstuffs market, Ogbo Ogwu and other selected public places.
The lawmaker added that “in the knowledge that public enlightenment is very strategic in this fight, I have also engaged the services of a number of public announcers who will traverse the length and breadth of Nnewi starting from Monday, 30th March, to create awareness about this dreaded virus.”
He further said, “In this difficult time in our world history, I write with a deep sense of concern on the ravaging coronavirus pandemic that is threatening our existence.
“Sad enough, this virus which has no known cure as it stands has not only found its way to our beloved country, Nigeria, but have continued to cause great panic, knowing full well that our health care sector is not at an appreciable level.
“While I appreciate the steps both federal and state governments have taken in mitigating this life-threatening disease, I plead with our people that we can prevent and control this disease if we comply with the guidelines and policies governments have put in place.
“To stop this pandemic and avoid an explosion of cases, we must constantly wash our hands with soap on running water, use hand sanitizer, avoid crowded places and public functions, stay at home, and if we must go out, let’s make use of face masks and gloves, and most importantly observe social distancing.
“On my part as the lawmaker representing Nnewi North in Anambra State House of Assembly, I have procured lots of sanitizers, face masks, and tap buckets.
“While I appreciate and agree with the faith of those who say, “It is not our portion”, it still behoves on us as responsible citizens to take the necessary precautions.
“One thing is certain and by the grace of God, we shall all come out of this pandemic stronger and none of our family members and loved ones will be affected.”
