The Transition Committee Chairman of Orumba North Local Government Area, Hon. Sir Ogo Ekwueme resumed work last week with a courtesy call to him by the executive and stakeholders of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Oko Wards 1 and 2 where he noted that the Governor of the state, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo spoke about the erosion menace troubling the community, an indication that the governor is concerned about the menace.
Thereafter, he received the Anambra State Waste Management Authority, (ASWAMA) contractor for Orumba North Local Government Area and Managing Director of Smachi Ventures, Mr. Ben Ekwenie who made a courtesy call.
Hon. Sir Ogo Ekwueme thanked him for the visit and pledged to assist him and his company to achieve his vision of a cleaner Orumba North.
With the forthcoming Community tour, the plan is to get first hand information about each community on waste generation and management.
The Mayor of Orumba North in the company of his dear wife, Lady Chiaku Ekwueme, also within the week under review, visited the National Leader of the All Christians Practical Praying Band, ACPPB, Ufuma, Mr. Dan Nwokolo to thank God for sparing and rescuing him from the hands of kidnappers who abducted him at his residence in Ufuma earlier on.
He thanked Mr Dan Nwokolo for the advice and his assured support to enable him deliver on the mandate given to him, Ekwueme, by Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo of Anambra State.
His words, “We came to bless God with you because from the story you told, we can see that God’s hands were with you. We appreciate God for seeing you through the ordeal and brought you safely back to us.
The Mayor also recieved the Traditional Ruler of Omogho town, His Royal Highness, Igwe Raphael N. Ofor who paid a courtesy visit and to give him his Royal blessing. The mayor urged him to always feel free to call him and to offer some useful advice on better ways to make the local government better which he promised not to toy with.
He, also approved and confirmed the recruitment of Mrs. Gloria Udeh Chukwuma from Amaokpala community as the new computer operator. She was interviewed for the job alongside five other applicants a fortnight ago. Mrs. Udeh Chukwuma resumed work last week Wednesday.
In a decisive meeting with the Head of Local Government Administration, Barr. Williams Uduchukwu and Heads of various Departments and Units in the Local Government Secretariat, the Mayor was briefed on the activities of their respective Departments and Units.
Addressing them, he charged them to live up to their responsibility and think outside the box to come up with the innovative ways of running the Local Government. He frowned at truancy and indolence even as he urged them to justify the money government spends on them monthly.
Meanwhile, the Mayor visited the Orumba South Local Government Secretariat, Umunze to meet with his counterpart, Prince Neville Uchendu to review the security situation in the two Local Government Areas with a resolve to up the ante in ensuring security of lives and property without recourse to boundaries and jurisdiction.
Orumba North Local Government Area, took delivery of palm seedlings from the Anambra State Ministry of Agriculture, Awka for distribution to the residents of the local government to drive the state government’s vision to return the state to its glorious past where agriculture was the mainstay of the state. The seedlings so received will be distributed to different communities in Orumba North this week.
In his quest to give the Local Government Secretariat a facelift, the Mayor of Orumba North and his team are tackling the hygiene standards of facility. Lack of sanitary conditions and water will soon be a thing of the past as Hon. Ekwueme had set machinery in motion to tackle these two challenges in the coming weeks.
During the week under review, the Chairman attended two strategic meetings at Awka namely: Routine Meeting between the Transition Committee Chairmen and the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters and the Inauguration of ASWAMA Committees for Local Government Area’s in Anambra South Senatorial Zone.
