The Africa Association of Professional Freight Forwarders and Logistics of Nigeria, APFFLON has congratulated the newly appointed General Manager, Corporate and Strategic Communications, Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, Mr. Ikechukwu Onyemekara.
Onyemekara, until his promotion and redeployment in a memo dated October 4, 2024, was the Technical Assistant on Protocols, a position he has held under three consecutive Managing Directors namely: Ms. Hadiza Bala Usman, Mohammed Bello-Koko and the incumbent, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho.
Speaking in a congratulatory message made available to our correspondent in Lagos on Monday, the National Public Relations Officer of APFFLON, Giwa Rasaq hailed the appointment of Onyemekara as a round peg in a round hole.
He noted that his appointment could not have come at a better time than now when NPA is in dire need of a new image in line with the dictates of the new Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy.
Giwa charged the new NPA Spokesman to open up lines of communication with all the stakeholders in the maritime sector in Nigeria including the freight forwarders who he described as the drivers of the nation’s economy, urging him to channel all his energies towards building a new image for the Authority.
Pointing out that the Authority was doing a lot in recent times to improve the sector, the APFFLON Spokesman, however, regretted that not much of these achievements of the Authority were known to the public hence the misconception of the agency by port users and Nigerians in general.
“Therefore, you need to communicate and engage the port users and the numerous stakeholders of your agency more for a better appreciation and understanding of the gains and achievements of NPA. We need you to replicate the achievements made by Chief Michael Ajayi and Capt. Iheanacho Ebubeogu while in this office”, he said.
Expressing his conviction that the new General Manager, Corporate and Strategic Communications, NPA would deliver on his mandate, he said, “I have no iota of doubt in my mind that you will discharge your responsibility so credibly. Be rest assured that APFFLON and indeed, all freight forwarders will collaborate and cooperate with you to build a new NPA which will be respected across the globe.
“While congratulating you on your promotion and redeployment, I, on behalf of APFFLON, wish you God’s guidance, protection and wisdom to deliver on your mandate. You can always rely on us any time, any day. Congratulations!
