The operatives of Operation Puff Adder attached to the Anambra State Police command in conjunction with the Special Anti-Cultism Unit of the command have arrested sixty-three (63) suspected cultists from various locations within the state in continuation of its raids on criminal hideouts and black spots.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Haruna Mohammed who disclosed this in a statement he released in Awka said that six suspected cultists were arrested at Obosi/Awada axis on the 15 July, 2019, six suspected cultists were arrested at Ogbaru axis on 16 July, 2019 while another five suspected cultists were arrested at Ogidi/Ogbunike axis on 17 July, 2019.
Also, eleven suspected cultists were arrested at Ihiala/Uli axis on 18 July, 2019, eight at Awka/Ifite Awka axis on 19 July, 2019, fifteen arrested at Nsugbe on 20 July, 2019 while twelve suspected cultists were arrested at Oko on 21 July, 2019.
According SP Haruna, “From all the raids carried out, a total number of 63 suspects have been arrested, 20 were screened out, 11 suspects were charged to court, 17 suspects were placed under police supervision for being under aged while 15 others are undergoing investigation.
“Meanwhile, exhibits recovered from the suspects include five improvised bunkers, five berets, two (2) daggers, two axes and some quantities of dry leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa.”
Haruna however quoted the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State, CP John Abang as further reassuring all Ndi Anambra that the command under his watch would continue to work assiduously until crime in the State was reduced to the barest minimum.
“The CP also implores well-meaning members of the public resident in the state to cooperate with the Police and report suspicious person(s) or movement(s) to the nearest Police Station or through the command emergency number-07039194332 for prompt action.”
