ASWAMA Contractor for Orumba North, Ekwenie visits Council boss, Ekwueme, renders progress report

The Managing Director of the Smachi Ventures, Mr. Ben Ekwenie, on Tuesday, visited the Transition Chairman of Orumba North Local Government Area, Hon. Sir Ogo Ekwueme in his office at Ajalli.

Ekwenie who arrived the Council’s Secretariat in the afternoon of Tuesday 16th August, 2022 stated that he had come to visit the Chairman who assumed duty barely two weeks ago to familiarize himself with him and to update him on the activities of his company in the area of waste management in the Local Government Area.

He noted that his company, Smachi Ventures was contracted by the Anambra State Waste Management Authority, ASWAMA to manage evacuation of wastes in the Council area and to help the Anambra State Government distribute Demand Notices to residents to enable them pay their sanitation fees to the state government and in so doing, boost the revenue profile of the state.

He disclosed that the contract which was for the initial period of three months could be reviewed upwards after the impact assessment of the contracting companies must have shown improvement in the area of environmental cleanliness.

The Smachi Ventures boss indicated that Oko, Awgbu, Nanka, Ufuma and Ajalli has been identified as areas with high concentration of waste generation adding that plans are underway to map out collection points in each community where wastes could be dropped in sewage bags for easy evacuation by the company.

He added that his company is partnering with the Presidents-General of the 16 communities in Orumba North to sensitize the communities on the best way to manage waste while seeking the support of the Council Chairman to enable him succeed in his task of ensuring waste free environment in the Local Government.

Responding, the Transition Chairman, Hon. Sir Ogo Ekwueme thanked him for the visit and pledged to assist him and his company in any way he can so as to achieve his vision of bringing Orumba North Local Government to the top three Local Governments in Anambra State at the end of his tenure.

He urged him not to hesitate to call his attention whenever he’s encountering any difficulty in executing his job while assuring him to carry him along during the forthcoming Community tour which he would soon embark on to assist him to speak to the community and get first hand information about each community in terms of waste generation and management.
