The Chairman, National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders, NAGAFF, Tincan Island chapter, Emeka Paul Chiedozie has urged the federal government to as a matter of urgency, beam her searchlight on the activities of filling stations around the country to checkmate their excesses.

Chiedozie who made this appeal in a chat with some journalists in Apapa, Lagos, passionately appealed to freight forwarders and stakeholders for calmness while various negotiations are ongoing. He added that in as much as the economy is bitting hard on families and businesses, it will soon be a thing of the past.

According to him, “Technically, it’s indeed a glaring fact that the recent untold hardship came sudden to us as Nigerians but the reality on ground is that we are aware that the subsidy would be removed in June. I am of the opinion that President Bola Tinunbu made a very big mistake by announcing it on the day of his inauguration as President.

“Economically, it aftected stock market and dollar again increased. That significant action took some Nigerians to their early grave. Hearing subsidy removal, some people blood pressure went up. The manner in which it was done is what angered majority of stakeholders.

“We were expecting President Ahmed Bola Tinunbu to carefully study the handover note before officially making any declaration. l have been a business man and a shipper for many years, the pronouncement made by the President favoured the marketers of PMS who are bringing in this products to Nigeria.

“One of the negative implications this has on freight forwarding business which is more of logistics, the truckers are also taking advantage of the situation to increase the current price of container haulage.

“Sincerely, the President has decided to use it as welcome package and we all have to live with it and adjust accordingly, while hoping that things will normalize before end of June. Nigerians will agree with the last administration that subsidy is a scam.”
