Lagos LG Election: Police warn politicians against visiting polling stations with escorts

The Lagos State Police Command has warned aspirants, political party executives and political party stakeholders against visiting the polling centres with Police escorts, Guards and private Guards during the Saturday’s local government elections in Lagos.

According to a statement issued in Lagos by the command’s spokesman, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole,  the command warned that such aspirants/ VIP’s who failed to heed this instruction would be sanctioned and their escorts/guards arrested and made to face disciplinary actions.

The statement further stated that on no account should anybody be seen disobeying this order as the Lagos State Police Command had made adequate provisions for effective security at all polling stations and collation centres.

The statement reads,”The Lagos State Police Command wants to inform members of the public that come Saturday, 22nd July, 2017, political office aspirants, political party executives and other political party stakeholders for the Local Government elections are to note that they are not to turn up at polling centres with police escorts, guards or private guards.

“The Lagos State Command wants to warn that such aspirants/ VIP’s who do not heed this instruction will be sanctioned and their escorts/guards will also be arrested and made to face disciplinary actions.

“On no account should anybody be seen disobeying this order as the Lagos State Police Command has made adequate provisions for effective security at all polling stations and collation centres”.

The statement added that this information had become necessary to inform members of the public “as this is in line with the rules and regulations of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC).”
