AREFFN writes Jukwe, dissociates self from resolutions of CRFFN registered associations

The Association of Registered Freight Forwarders Nigeria (AREFFN) has written to the Registrar of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN), Sir Mike Jukwe dissociating itself from the resolutions of the CRFFN Registered Associations Forum of 8th June, 2018.

It will be recalled that four out of the five registered freight forwarding associations including some chieftains of AREFFN represented by the former National President of AREFFN, Dr. Frank Ukor, Comptroller Christopher Banye (rtd.) and the Interim Vice President of AREFFN attended a meeting at the headquarters of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) where they resolved to have the 15 elective positions in the forthcoming CRFFN Governing Council election shared among the five registered associations.

The four associations stated that the decision was taken in view of the envisaged logistics, crowd control, feeding, accommodation and security challenges that would be faced if the CRFFN insists on holding the election in Abuja.

A communiqué signed by representatives of the four associations noted that the sharing formula was to be based on the numerical strength and spread of the associations as follows: NAGAFF 6 Positions, ANLCA             6 Positions, AREFFN 1 Position, NAFFAC 1 Position and NCMDLC 1 Position.

“By this, it was agreed that this will produce an all-inclusive council. This sharing formula was unanimously voted for and passed into effect.

“As a follow-up to this resolution it was also agreed that instead of the full rigour of elections, the candidates of each association should be chosen by consensus by each association and should then be the members of the Governing Council of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN).

“It is also agreed upon that every freight practitioner shall and must belong to one of the registered associations of CRFFN. This we all agreed shall be a strict measure for control and regulation of practitioners by CRFFN”, the communiqué said.

However, the Interim National Secretary of AREFFN, Mr. Chidi Anthony Opara, in a letter addressed to Jukwe, dated 13th June, 2018 and copied the Nigerian Shippers’ Council and the Federal Ministry of Transport, stated that the association had no founder and President Emeritus even as he pointed out that Comptroller Christopher Banye (rtd.) was not a Trustee of AREFFN and so cannot be the Chairman of Board of Trustees.

He added that the interim National Vice President who attended the meeting did so in his personal capacity as Mr. Okey Egwuatu and did not represent the association.

“The letter read, “The association of Registered Freight Forwarders Nigeria (AREFFN) hereby dissociates herself from the resolution of the “CRFFN Registered Association Forum” of 8th June, 2018.

“Please note that AREFFN does not have “Founder” and “President Emeritus”. Comptroller Chris Banye (rtd.) is not a Trustee of AREFFN abd so, cannot be the Chairman of Board of Trustees. The Vice President attended the meeting in a private capacity.

“This is for your guidance and official record purposes”.
